In addition to the large, well-known collections of Roosevelt papers and ephemera at the Library of Congress and Harvard College Library, the Theodore Roosevelt Center has secured documents from six National Park Service sites connected to Roosevelt and his legacy. The Center is in the process of gathering smaller collections from sites heretofore largely unknown for Roosevelt materials, such as Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia, and Sully’s Hill National Game Preserve near Devils Lake, North Dakota. The America Collection celebrates a diverse group of Theodore Roosevelt items from around the country. Researchers, private collectors, and other people passionate about TR submit digital items that match our specifications. We are proud to share these items that might not otherwise be publicly available.
Established by an Act of the First Territorial Legislature on November 7, 1864, the Arizona Historical Society (AHS) is Arizona’s oldest historical agency. The items in their collections illuminate Roosevelt’s relationship to the Great Plains, as well as his connections to the Selmes, Greenway, and Ferguson families.
In 2017, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West celebrated its centennial. Beginning with the original goal of examining the life and impact of William F. Cody, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West has developed into a five museum complex in Cody, Wyoming. The Center is composed of the Plains Indian Museum, the Buffalo Bill Museum, the Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Draper Museum of Natural History, and the Cody Firearms Museum. The McCracken Research Library also contains rare books, historic photographs, and original manuscripts, including the archive of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company.
Founded in 1862, the Buffalo History Museum proudly displays regional paintings, photographs, artifacts, and manuscripts. Their collection includes 100,000 physical objects, 200,000 photographs, and 20,000 books. The themes of westward expansion, industrialization, and immigration are essential to the Museum.
A Theodore Roosevelt Centennial Commission created by the United States House of Representatives worked with the Theodore Roosevelt Association to coordinate activities to commemorate the centennial of Roosevelt’s birth. At Dickinson State University, a Centennial Symposium was held with guest speakers from all over the country including then-Senator John F. Kennedy.
As a music historian and sheet music collector, Dr. Crew was attracted to collecting sheet music as a way to combine his love of politics, history, and music. The collection includes sheet music, song sheets, and song books as well as commercial recordings. Illustrated here are the pieces that do not duplicate those presented in the Wynn Collection.
Fritz R. Gordner was introduced to presidential collecting as a child. That urge to collect has grown into a Theodore Roosevelt collection that includes hundreds of postcards, campaign buttons, banners, and assorted items including a Toby jug, and a Roosevelt bank.
Private collector Gregory A. Wynn has made his significant holdings of sheet music available for inclusion in the digital library. Theodore Roosevelt's hold on the American consciousness is demonstrated in the variety, color, and number of these marches, songs, and rags.
Harvard University's Theodore Roosevelt Collection includes Theodore Roosevelt's papers other than those designated by him for the Library of Congress, papers of other Roosevelt family members, ancillary archival resources, printed works, photographs and cartoons, and ephemera relating to Roosevelt's personal and professional life.
The Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound division of the Library of Congress currently preserves and provides access to hundreds of films, radio and television broadcasts.
